I am excited to share this super easy sandwich idea that has been in our family cook book for ages. As a teenager this meal was one of my favorites. We didn’t have steak very often but when we did, we thought we were pretty cool stuff. Smother steak in cheese and add grilled vegetables and you have the perfect summer (okay…fall) sandwich. Fresh tomatoes from the garden on this sandwich are amazing! If you have a little extra time, these sandwiches delicious on our homemade french bread or hoagie buns. Sweet Potato Fries dipped in homemade ranch dressing are a great addition to this meal!

  1. Slice vegetables and steak into thin strips. In a saute pan, saute the onions with a little oil or butter until tender. Add the steak pieces to the onions and saute on medium high heat until steak is nearly cooked through (don't over cook the steak or it will be too tough). Season with Montreal Seasoning or salt and pepper. Add sliced bell peppers and mushrooms to the steak and saute for another minute until tender (you want the peppers soft, but not mushy). Add the tomatoes to the mixture and turn off the heat to let the tomatoes soften slightly. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the meat and vegetable mixture and cover with a lid until cheese is melted. Serve a portion of the meat and vegetables on to each hoagie bun. (You can toast the hoagie bun with a little butter until golden brown if you have time and prefer the bread crusty).
