Instructions
- With a pastry blender cut in: 1 Cup flour and ½ cup margarine or butter; add with 2 Tablespoons water. This will require lots of folding and mixing with hands. Divide in half on ungreased cookie sheet or on parchment paper. Pat each half with hands until strip is 12”x3”. Place 3” apart. In sauce pan, combine: ½ cup margarine or butter with 1 Cup water. Boil. Remove from heat – put in 1 teaspoon almond extract. Beat in 1 Cup flour, stirring quickly to keep from lumping. When smooth add 3 eggs one at a time – beating well. Divide batter in half – spread evenly over strips. Bake @ 375 for 55-60 minutes. Frost while warm and sprinkle with slivered almonds. Slice in thirds then diagonally.

I've been making these for years. They have always been my "go to" item when I'm asked to bring a dessert. Someone ALWAYS asks for the recipe and I've never had anyone who didn't like them!
I'm glad you love these too. I need to make them all year long and not just at Christmas. They are sure buttery and yummy 😉 Thanks for your comment.
Great recipe, thank you. One question, please: there are obviously three layers of pastry on the photo. In your recipe you write only about two tipes of dough one on the other, with no almonds in between. Best, Stan
I usually only do two layers. Why it shows 3 in the pastries I am not sure why. The dough does have yummy flaky layers that pull apart as you eat them. Two or three layers, it will still be delicious 😉
