This cake makes me laugh. The picture only makes this cake even more funny to me. No matter what you do, it is nearly impossible to make this cake look good. Last week I was at a church function with a group of women. When women get together there of course has to be treats. So, there was an entire table covered in awesome looking desserts. It took me awhile to get to the table (because chatting is the next best thing to desserts :). I then see all of these women with this boring, white cake on their plates. I hear everyone oohing and awing about how great this cake is. Me, having the big mouth that I do said, “No offense, that cake looks totally boring and can’t be that great.” Oh boy, did I have to eat my words. I took one bite of this cake and was laughing at how amazing it was! The buttery, smooth, moist, almond goodness of this cake just melts in your mouth. The almond flavor is subtle, yet just enough to make this cake interesting and addicting. I got this recipe from my friend who made it that night and I have made this cake three times in the last week. Funny enough, I am making it again tonight for another get together. This cake might not a win an award when it comes to looks, but it is definitely a winner when it comes to taste!

Instructions
In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Whisk
together. In a medium sized sauce pan put the milk,
and butter. Turn on medium heat and cook until melted. Bring to a low boil
and then remove from heat. Pour the butter/milk mixture into the bowl
with the flour and sugar. Whisk together and then add the eggs, sour
cream and vanilla. Mix together the batter until combined and then pour
into a jelly roll pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Bake at
350 for 22-23 minutes, or until the cake is cooked through. Remove from
the oven and set aside. While the cake is baking make the frosting. In a
bowl, add the butter and milk together. Beat with an
electric mixer until smooth. Add the vanilla and powdered sugar and
continue to beat until smooth and fluffy. Once the cake is out of the
oven, spread the frosting on the hot cake. Serve the cake warm or cold.
If you want to drizzle chocolate on top of the cake you could also do
Can't wait to try this but in your directions you say to mix the butter, peanut butter and milk together. I don't see peanut butter in the ingredients. Not sure if I'm missing something. I think I know what you mean but thought I would let you know. Thank you for all the awesome posts. I love your recipes.
Sorry! That was a mistake (from our peanut butter version). It's just butter in the frosting. Thanks, I have it fixed now in the recipe 🙂 Thanks for catching that!
