Chocolate, peppermint and cake. What could be better than combining all three of them together? The other day I needed a simple holiday recipe I could take to a family party. I had a package of Oreos that I needed to get rid of so I would stop eating them. I also have several boxes of candy canes laying around just tempting me to use them in a recipe. I threw everything together and the result was a holiday party of flavors in your mouth! The Oreos layered on the bottom of the moist chocolate cake added a fun texture and crunch. The cream cheese frosting is light and soft and the crunch of peppermint on top adds such a fun, festive flavor. All in all, this dessert is a great, simple one for your upcoming events! I have a party this Friday and I will be making this again and I can’t wait!!

Peppermint Oreo Cake
  1. 1 devils food cake
  2. 1 small chocolate pudding
  3. 4 eggs
  4. 1/2 cup sour cream
  5. 1/4 cup oil
  6. 1 cup water
  7. 1 Tbls. vanilla
  8. Several Oreos for the bottom and top of cake (about 2 sleeves)
  1. 1 stick butter
  2. 1 (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
  3. Capful peppermint extract
  4. 1 tsp. vanilla
  5. 3 cup powdered sugar
  6. Peppermint candy canes, crushed

  1. Cake: In a mixing bowl, combine all of the cake ingredients until smooth. Spray a 9x13 baking dish and place a single layer of Oreos on the bottom of the pan. Pour the cake batter over the top of the Oreos and bake as the cake package suggests. Test the center of the cake with a toothpick to make sure the center is cooked through--but don't over bake. Remove the cake and let it sit until cooled, while you prepare the frosting.
  2. Frosting: In another mixing bowl, with an electric mixer beat together the butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy and completely smooth. Add the peppermint extract, vanilla and powdered sugar until the frosting is soft and whipped. If the frosting is too thin, you can add a couple teaspoons of milk if necessary. Mix all the powdered sugar in before you add the milk though--the cream cheese tends to soften the frosting pretty well. Frost the cooled cake and then top with crushed Oreos and peppermint candy canes that have been crushed.
