The past several weeks ground beef and turkey have been on sale for great deals! The other day I couldn’t help myself and I wanted to create a new burger recipe. I had some leftover gorgonzola from a salad I made earlier in the week and my mouth was watering before I even had finished the recipe idea in my head. I love the smooth, salty flavor of gorgonzola. It has a more mild flavor than blue cheese and pairs perfectly with any red meat. I know these burgers sound kind of exotic, but all of my kids, down to my 3 year old, ate their hamburger in two seconds flat–not to mention they were easy to throw together. The creamy sauce, the sauteed mushrooms, the roasted red pepper, all squished together in between a soft bun. Oh man, a good burger just makes me happy!! My mouth is watering just thinking about them. I hope you enjoy these burgers as much as we did 😉

Gorgonzola Burgers with Roasted Red Peppers
Burgers
  1. 1 lb. ground turkey
  2. 1 lb. ground beef
  3. 1 piece of bread, broken up into small pieces (or use dry breadcrumbs)
  4. 1 egg
  5. 1/2 red onion, diced
  6. 1/3 cup crumbled gorgonzola cheese
  7. 2 tsp. sriracha (or other hot sauce)
  8. 2 cloves garlic, minced
  9. 1 tsp salt & pepper
Gorgonzola Cream Sauce
  1. 1 cup mayonnaise
  2. 1/2 lemon, juiced
  3. 1/3 cup crumbled gorgonzola
  4. Salt & pepper to taste
  5. 1 jar roasted red bell peppers, drained and patted dry (one pepper per burger is about right)--of course you can roast your own if you have time 😉
  6. 1 onion
  7. 8 oz. mushrooms

Instructions
  1. Combine all of the hamburger ingredients together in a large bowl. Form the meat into patties the size of your buns. Grill the burgers on medium-high heat until they are no longer pink in the center (about 5-7 minutes on each side). While the burgers are cooking prepare the rest of the ingredients.
  2. For the sauce, combine all of the ingredients together and set aside.
  3. Pat the roasted peppers with a paper towel until dry.
  4. In a saute pan, saute the mushrooms and sliced onions in 2 Tbls. of butter until soft and tender.
  5. Build the burger with cream sauce on the bottom of the bun, the grilled burger, and then top with the mushrooms & onions, red pepper and lettuce (optional).
