Sometimes I feel like I am a little obsessive about a homemade burger–it’s almost borderline Rachel Ray-ish 🙂 For some reason though, I just can’t get enough of a salty, juicy, homemade burger topped with all sorts of delicious flavors. Whenever I go to a resaraunt my most ordered burger is for sure a Blue Bacon Burger. I decided to create my own version at home and it was WAY better than any burger I’ve ever had at a burger joint. I sauted onions with a little sweet balsamic vinegar and topped the burger with fresh blue cheese (or gorgonzola would work too), crispy bacon, fresh lettuce and a juicy tomato. I made my own blue cheese dressing for the bun and the combo was plain delightfulness!! If you are enjoying a little warmer weather where you live, this weekend would be a great time to dust off the grill and have yourself a delicious barbeque 😉 Hope you enjoy!

  1. Dice the red onion into small pieces. In a bowl, add the onion, garlic, salt, pepper, worcestershire sauce and ground beef together. Once combined and incorporated, form the beef mixture into 8-10 hamburger patties (depending how large you make them). Heat a griddle or grill to medium-high heat. Grill the patties on a hot grill until the center of the burger is no longer pink and the hamburger is cooked through. While the hamburgers are grilling, make the topping for your burgers.
  2. While the hamburgers are cooking, cook the bacon in your oven on a cookie sheet, or in a pan until golden brown and crispy. Once the bacon is golden brown, remove from the pan and let it rest on a paper towel to drain off the excess grease.
  3. Combine the sauce ingredients together and set aside for the burger.
  4. Once the hamburgers are cooked through, begin to assemble burgers. Spread a generous amount of the blue cheese sauce on both sides of a hamburger bun. Place a piece of lettuce and a tomato on the bottom bun. Place the cooked patty on top of the tomato and then top with a couple slices of bacon, the sautéed onions and more gorgonzola or blue cheese.
