I know most parents would really struggle to get their kids to eat  brussel sprouts but for some reason my children love them.  Normally we just steam them and toss them in butter with a squirt of lemon juice but I was feeling creative and decided to prepare them a bit differently today.  I was craving something sweet and so instead of indulging in a butter and sugar laden pastry of some sort I thought I would feel less guilty if I ate some semi sweet brussel sprouts.  This is what I came up with and they turned out delicious!

Maple Glazed Brussel Sprouts
Ingredients
  1. 1 1/2 to 2 pounds steamed brussel sprouts
  2. 2 tbsp butter
  3. 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  4. 1 tbsp brown sugar
  5. 1/4 cup chopped pecans
  6. Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
  1. Steam brussel sprouts in a rice cooker or steamer until tender. In a large skillet melt butter over medium/high heat. Add in maple syrup and brown sugar and stir until bubbly. Add the steamed brussel sprouts and toss to coat. Sprinkle with pecan and continue to toss over med/high heat until outer layer of the brussel sprouts begins to caramelize, about 5 minutes. Measurements do not need to be exact add more or less butter, sugar and syrup to your liking. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and serve hot.
