Now that vacation time is in full swing, I wanted to share a simple tip that makes eating on the go a little easier and inexpensive. When our family travels, I try and find places to stay that allow us to cook as many meals in the hotel (or condo) as possible. With a little planning, you can make delicious meals on the go as well.

When I’m planning food for a family trip, I like to make sure I have plenty of seasonings to make all of my favorite recipes. You can pack the big spice containers, or you can do what I do and place a tablespoon or so of the seasonings I need into small, ziploc bags. If I know a recipe needs a couple teaspoons of cumin, I’ll pre measure it and put it in the baggie. Same with any other spices I know I will need for the meals I’m going to make.

Another trick I love, is to pre measure the seasonings I need for particular recipes. For example, if I know I will be making a poppyseed dressing, I will pre measure the seasonings and place them all in a ziploc bag. I then pre measure out the wet ingredients and place those in a sealed tupperware. When it’s time to make the dressing, all I need to do is combine a couple things and we’re set! Yes, I could just buy store bought dressing, but that’s kind of against my food snobbery problem 😉

With a little planning, you can save some big money on your vacations with a little extra prep work. Hope your upcoming trips are a success!
