It’s the ten year anniversary of this recipe on our blog and I couldn’t be more excited to share it again with you. We also played around with a video to help show you how simple these bars are to make and how they are the perfect dessert recipe for any spring/summer gatherings. I love that they make a big cookie sheet full for a crowd, or you to enjoy by yourself. Believe me, once you start eating these bars, you won’t want to stop!

The recipe hasn’t changed in over 20 years and it’s still my go-to favorite dessert recipe. Remember eating these bars at school when you were young? They were good then but even better now as an adult! Not to mention this recipe has perfected the texture and flavor. Get rid of any old dry, crumbly peanut butter bar recipes you may be holding onto. Once you make these, you will be hooked! Hope you enjoy them as much as we have these past couple decades 😉

Best Ever Peanut Butter Bars

  • Author: Deals to Meals
  • Prep Time: 15
  • Cook Time: 15
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 15 1x

  • BARS:
  • 1 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 1/2 c. peanut butter (creamy or chunky)
  • 1 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 t. salt
  • 1 1/2 t. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 t. vanilla
  • 2 1/3 c. flour
  • 3 c. oats (regular or quick)
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • Dash of salt
  • 1/2 c. cocoa powder
  • 3 1/2 c. powdered sugar
  • 1/3 c. milk

  1. Peanut Butter Bars: Cream the butter, peanut butter, sugars and eggs together until smooth. Add the remaining ingredients and beat until incorporated.
  2. Spread into a greased cookie sheet (jelly roll size) until even on all sides (batter will be thick, you may need to use a fork to press down).
  3. Bake at 325 for 13 minutes (bar will seem under done, but will firm up as it sits). This recipe makes a large batch, it can be halved and put in a 9×13 pan if you would prefer.
  4. Chocolate Frosting: Beat the butter, peanut butter, cocoa powder, and milk together until smooth and soft.
  5. Add the powdered sugar, salt, and vanilla and continue to beat until fluffy and smooth. Spread a thin layer of frosting over the cooled peanut butter bars.

I promise the bars will seem underdone when you take them out after 13-14 minutes. After about an hour of resting on the counter they will be perfect. This soft texture will make them even more amazing in days to come and they won’t dry out. Trust me here, I’ve made them many times. They will be perfect!!
